Abstract: There have been numerous studies on pollution treatment of organic matter is done application, methods of pollution treatment adsorbent material made from natural materials is a new research direction is concerned. This thesis also went towards research, and natural materials used is bentonite modified by dimetyl dioctadecyl ammonium chloride for adsorption of phenolic compounds in contaminated water sources. After their research, thesis has obtained the following specific results: a/ The optimal conditions to synthesize organoclays are the dimetyl dioctadecyl ammonium chloride content equal 125% cation exchange capacity(CEC), pH=9, heating at 55 o C and reaction for 4 hours. b/ By the methods of physics and modern chemistry (SEM, X-ray, IR, TGA) has determined the structure of the organoclay was manufactured. The basal line spacing of organoclays increases from 15.6 Å to 40.8 Å. c/ Studies on the absorption capacity of organoclay for phenol compounds, the maximum absorption capacity of organoclay obtained as follows: - With phenol: qmax = 49.75 mg/g - With phenol red: qmax = 85.47 mg/g - With DB-53: qmax = 333.33 mg/g - Successfully synthesized Aluminum pillared-organoclay with the maximum adsorption capacity for DB-53 is qmax = 769.23 mg/g. d/ With organoclays, the free holes was located by dimetyl dioctadecyl ammonium chloride make centered adsorption decrease, and the ability to retain organic chemicals on the surface better to extract phenolic compounds. Therefore, Aluminum pillared organoclays has adsorption capacity bigger recycled better than organoclays’s. After 3 times recycled,Aluminum pillared organoclays indicated high adsorption capacity and agents retained dimetyl dioctadecyl ammonium chloride also high. This results open prospects for using bentonite, the common natural resource in Vietnam, to modify adsormaterial to better treat with phenolic compounds in contaminated water.
